Mercedes AMG GT3 Gulf

The Mercedes AMG GT3 was announced in 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show, as the race version of the GT. Using the 6.2-litre V8 from the SLS AMG GT3, the GT3 also has a significantly lower weight aided by carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer, which allows the GT3 to comply with racing regulations. With around 550bhp, the AMG GT3 looks to improve upon the popular, and incredibly successful SLS AMG GT3, and conquer the competitive GT3 bracket. Mercedes-AMG, based in Affalterbach, Germany have been engineering and customizing Mercedes for decades and still stick to their often quoted, ‘one man, one engine’ philosophy with engine builders proudly marking each engine built with a plaque displaying their name once complete.

C3834A    McLaren M7C John Surtees, 1970 Dutch GP Legend – Limited Edition

No man is ever likely to emulate John Surtees’ feat of winning World Championships on two wheels and four. A racer who would be equally at home in the Halls of Fame of both motorcycle and car racing, ‘Big John’ rarely won the accolades his success deserved. Surtees’ prowess on motorcycles won him universal respect, and soon after trying out cars for Vanwall and Aston Martin in 1959, he switched full-time to cars in 1960. Having driven for Lotus, Ferrari, Honda and BRM, Surtees then set up Team Surtees in 1970. The season didn?t start to well with the first 3 races all ending in retirement, but in round 5 at the Dutch GP held at Zandvoort Surtees got his first point of the season. Surtees had to work hard for the victory after Qualifying 14th, but after some hard work and some luck through others retiring Surtees held on to the final points position.

Scalextric C3694A British Touring Car Champs 2014& 2015 BMW 125 Series 1 &Honda Civic

The 2014 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) was decided on the last day of racing at the famous Brands Hatch Circuit in Kent, UK. Driver Colin Turkington, in his eBay Motors BMW, had to overcome the challenge put forward by MG’s Jason Plato, who just happened to be the most successful BTCC driver in history! The impressive one two from Plato and Tordoff wasn’t enough as Turkington secured the victory.

The 2015 BTCC season ended with Scottish driver Gordon Shedden claiming the title in dramatic fashion after one of the most exciting races of the season. In front of a record crowd of 42,000, the Honda Yuasa Racing driver had to finish the race in 6th place to secure the title. Working his way through the pack from 19th position, Shedden managed to grab enough points to push race winner Jason Plato into second place overall. The exhilarating end to the race was a fantastic way to see out another great season and really exemplifies the high octane racing that is typical in the BTCC.

MRRC MC0051 Porsche 910 launch model 1967

This car uses the MRRC/Monogram Sebring chassis. The Sebring chassis is an excellent universal 1/32 scale chassis for use with body kits and for kitbashig and scratchbuilding projects. It can be set up to handle well in both magnet and non-magnet racing. It has an adjustable wheelbase and is compact enough to fit almost any sports car, GT, or sedan body and to allow the use of wide wheels ad tires within even a relatively modest body width.

MRRC and Monogram cars using the Sebring chassis come with a variety of different wheels and tires. All of them use the same “slimline” motor which provides more than enough power for most home and club racing. They are ideal “donor cars” to provide a complete running chassis for the body of your choice at a cost often lower than purchasing the needed components separately.

Scalextric C3741 Ford XC Falcon – 1978 Bathurst 1000

Race: 1978 Hardie-Ferodo 1000

Driver: Allan Moffat & Jacky Ickx

Pushing for more television time, the 1978 Hardie-Ferodo 1000 saw the introduction of the Hardies Heroes Top 10 runoff for pole position. Rain in the morning meant the track was damp during the first run, which was certainly reflected in the times. That was until Allan Moffat went out and, ignoring the puddles, ran a time six seconds faster than anyone else (while hitting 159 mph on Conrod Straight).

Moffat was eventually pushed back to third and, unfortunately, the race didn’t go as planned. Allan was forced to retire on lap 81, allowing rival Peter Brock to take the victory.

Scalextric C3696 Legends Ford XY GT-HO Falcon, 1972 Bathurst

Rain was very much the theme for the 1972 Bathurst. John Goss sat behind the wheel of the Ford Falcon and, in practice, set the fastest lap time before blowing an engine. On the race day, with the engine changed, the rain continued to pour, which was unfortunate for the Falcons as they were not suited to driving in wet conditions. As the rain eased a dry line started to appear. Goss pushed the Falcon to its limit and started to close the gap to the cars ahead. Luck though, was not on Goss’s or the Falcon’s side when on lap 24 the strain on the car got too much and the engine blew for a second time.

Carrera 30775 Ferrari 365 P2 “No.01″, Winner Kyalami 9h 1965

What a great time it was when the legendary British racing drivers David Piper and Richard Atwood claimed victory in the Kyalami 9-hour race! Their victorious ride, the Ferrari 365 P2, has also become a legend in its own right. In 1965 the juicy green classic with its 4.4-litre, V12 engine was considered the ultimate sports car. While filming for “Le Mans” Piper crashed in his Porsche and lost part of his leg. However, Piper could never kick the racing habit and being a motor racing legend he saw no reason to take it easier: To this day David Piper has remained a rock-solid Ferrari enthusiast, running his own small-scale workshop in Surrey in which he has already built three complete Ferrari 330P4 replicas.

Yes, this is the best digital race set you can buy at any price. It includes six cars, a full racing program with lap counting, lap timing and dozens of race management choices plus the push-button option of racing analog. There is (just) time to get it by Christmas if you order now.

Scalextric C1330T – Set, DIGITAL PLATINUM, 6 CARS Audi/McLaren/Porsche (C)

Space Required: 9’2″ x 9’2″

Track Length: 28′

Welcome to the exciting world of Scalextric Digital. This set allows you to race six cars at the same time, performing amazing, realistic overtaking and braking maneuvers. You can switch lanes at the touch of a button to overtake or block your opponent.

This set features an extended figure-8 circuit with raised bridge section and two lane-change track sections.

The set comes with the amazing Advanced 6 Car Digital Powerbase (C7042).

The Advanced 6 car Digital Powerbase can be used to race up to six cars on a Scalextric Digital layout at the same time or be used on a standard Scalextric two-lane layout.

– The unit has a clear user interface with two levels of features to suit both the novice and experienced user.

– The Skill Level option allows you to adjust the maximum power levels to individual cars so that ‘novice versus expert’ races can be run more fairly.

– Hand throttles can be calibrated to equalize controller performance.

– Multiple gaming modes, timed endurance and total lap format racing.

– Ghost cars (PACER) function for setting 1 to 6 cars to run automatically, with switchable lane changing and lap counting on individual cars.

– Setting the car ID is easy via a simple, one-button action.

– This Powerbase delivers 15v for faster car performance AND comes with TWO transformers.

-The speeds of cars the power output can be varied to make it easier for beginners to learn how race.

– An ‘open-source’ output connection enables the enthusiast to connect the C7042 power base to a computer for additional functionality.

– This new Powerbase can be used in Analogue or Digital power modes. This great feature allows the Powerbase to be used with standard 2-lane Scalextric circuits, using two cars only, or with Scalextric Digital layouts for 1-to-6 car action. All features are available in either mode.

– Now the best of both worlds is offered – an all-in-one race control system for Analog and Digital racing.

The set inncludes two Porsche 911 GT3 cars, two McLaren 12C GT3 cars and two Audi R8 cars. These Super-Resistant racers feature easy change pick-ups and the Magnatraction™ system to help them stay on the circuit.

Digital layouts are fully compatible with standard Scalextric track pieces.

The January/February 2017 number 91 issue of Model Car Racing magazine is here with over 40 new cars, new race tracks, tips on buying the best digital racing system and more.

MCR91 Model Car Racing Magazine, January/February 2017 (C)

There is a “best” brand of digital because it is the only one that allows you to run analog cars, as well as digital with the push of a button. There is a detailed explanation of the strange phenomenon of the “mag” motors that add to the cars’ magnetic downforce and increase cornering speed. There are full reports on the prototypes’ racing background, specifications and the performance and details of the 1/32 scale models of the 1967 Lola T70 Mk.III, 1990 BMW M3 E30 BTTC, 1994 Alfa Romeo 155 Ti DTM, 2000 Audi R8 LeMans, 2012 SRT Viper GTS-R, 2014 MG6 BTCC, 2014 Mercedes AMG Petronas WO4 Formula 1, 2015 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 and 2015 NASCAR Chevrolet SS. There are plans so you can assemble a 2-Lane version of the 2-Lane Valencia Circuit on a 5 x 9-foot and on a 12 x 16-foot tabletop using snap-together plastic track. There is also a racetrack plan for an HO scale AFX 4-Lane Valencia Circuit on a 4-x8 foot tabletop.
