One of the most famous road races of all time the Targa Florio was a gruelling 10 lap race around the public roads that wind their way round the island of Sicily. In 1967 it was a round of the international manufacturer’s championship, and cars from all over the world flocked to compete.

This glorious 412P was entered by Herbert Muller and Jean Guichet, but sadly suffered a differential problem on the tortuous route and failed to finish. One of the most radical and recognizable concepts ever to see the Formula One track the six wheeled Tyrrell P34 is, at the time of writing, the only six wheeled Formula One car to ever see the track in a competitive Formula One environment. First shown at the end of the 1975 season and making its debut in 1976 the car proved unpopular with both drivers, Jody Scheckter being unimpressed with the cars handling. His team mate Patrick Depailler however was more complimentary on the cars performance.

The car proved to exceptionally good on circuits with long straights and flowing fast bends, but seemed to struggle more with tighter bumpier tracks. It scored its only victory at the 1976 Swedish Grand Prix at Anderstorp with Jody Scheckter coming in first followed by Patrick Depailler second. The early race leader Mario Andretti In the Lotus 77 was eliminated on the 46th lap, thus handing victory to Scheckter, who had also qualified on pole.

This proved to be the highwater mark for the P34, a number of podiums followed but by the following season the concept had reached the limit of its potential and the team reverted to a more standard design before the whole concept was outlawed later in the decade.

The 1967 LeMans 24 Hours saw a titanic battle at the front of the field between the works Ford MKIV cars and the various Ferrari entrants. This culmination of the Ford Ferrari wars was eventually ended in favour of Ford, with 1967 being the second of four successive victories in the 24-hour race. This MKIV was piloted in the classic race by Denny Hulme and Lloyd Ruby, it managed only 86 laps in the race before being eliminated in an accident, sliding off and damaging the chassis. The famous bright green Dodge Challengers were a force to be reckoned with during the 1970 Trans Am series. The first of Tyrrells own cars the 001 saw its debut in the Canadian GP of 1970. Qualified on pole by Jackie Stewart the car proved at first to be fast but unreliable, retiring with a broken axle while leading. The 1963 Monaco Grand Prix saw yet another famous face take the wheel of the iconic Lotus 25 in a Formula One race around the principality. The McLaren F1 made its LeMans debut at the 1995 LeMans 24-hour race. Although not designed as a racing car the machine immediately proved to be very competitive. A staple of the British Saloon Car series in the 1970s Stuart Graham initially began as a motorcycle racer, riding in the Honda works team and later for Suzuki in the 50cc and 125cc world championships. The Ford Escort MK1 is an icon of touring car racing all over the world. The car has seen success across Europe and as far away from its homeland as Australia. As well as its obvious wins in the BTCC though the car also saw use in the United States. 1972 saw a car entered for John Fitzpatrick, a well known and successful British racer, and American John Buffum.
